Rene Cherson - St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Moorestown, NJ
Lauren Finnila - Hope Lutheran Church, Freehold, NJ I can't seem to pick one reason why I'm going on the trip this year, or even what I hope to get out of it while we're there. This ministry is one that I have been following since it first started ten years ago, and I am fortunate to be part of the travel team for the fourth time. Every year I think of new reasons to go back. This year's newest reason is because I miss it. I miss the people, the work that we do, the fun that we have, and the hope that we pass on to the youth of the schools we visit (and hopefully to some others, too). The trip is grueling, demanding, but most of all rewarding. Not only for myself and my teammates, but also for the lives we touch in the short time we are there. I am truly grateful for this opportunity, and if the work that we put forth changes the life of a single child, than we have succeeded.

Meghan Greve - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hainesport, NJ I've wanted to go on this trip since I heard about it six years ago at a youth retreat. I've always loved helping people, and I know this is going to make a difference in their lives, but I also know that this will make a difference in my life.

Beth Haltmeier - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hainesport, NJ I talk to my children all the time about helping others when we have the opportunity, and it seems that this opportunity keeps presenting itself year after year. I love working with children as a teacher here and want to share that joy with the children of Bosnia.

Georgia Hansen - Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Marlton, NJ I am going on this trip because it combines service and “working” with children – two of my hobbies. When I went on the trip last year, I had no clue what to expect… I had never even been out of the country before! For me, the trip is about learning about a new culture, discovering the universality of children, seeing the integration of multiple religions, bringing efforts towards peace to a war-torn region, and meeting Bosnian community members who themselves lived through the war and are working to steer their country in a new direction. I am most looking forward to seeing people who I met last year and hearing more of their touching stories.

Alexa Hibbert - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hainesport, NJ I stumbled into teaching by accident and discovered I really like it. I want to go to Bosnia to continue doing something I like in a more global and profound way. (Add to that my daughter is now 13 and probably anxious to get me out of the house.)

Cindy Henry - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hainesport Working as a journalist during the war in Bosnia, I edited dispatches from our correspondents in sniper-torn Sarajevo. After work, I went home wondering: What would I do if suddenly I had no food, no water, no heat? What if the neighbor who just waved from his driveway turned overnight into my enemy? A few years later, my sons were born, and as they embraced the world with trust and hope, I understood that hate is learned, not inborn. I’m traveling to Bosnia to embrace children’s natural inclination toward peace, justice and love – to plant a seed that just might last.

Rick Henry - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hainesport, NJ I've always known about the trip, and it has always seemed important to me; this year I'm old enough to go.

Emily Horner - Zion Lutheran Church, Long Valley, NJ My reasons of being a member of this team have changed over the years. I was similar to most of the new members in wanting to see what it was like over there, to fully understand why everyone who have gone constantly talk about this trip. I also wanted to gain a new appreciation for the life style I had become accustomed to. I had no idea I would discover my true path of exactly what I wanted to persue for my life. This is going to be my fifth trip to this beautiful, yet heartbroken country. Everytime I return, I learn something new about the people, the region as a whole, and the difficulties of past and future for this country.

Carrie Izzo - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hainesport, NJ I've felt called to this ministry for many years, and I look forward to the chance to make a difference in this work.

Andrew Konnerth - St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Wayne, NJ Being only a freshman in high school at the age of 15, this trip is going to be a journey for me. I expect to see how my life is to those in Bosnia. That would have me better understand how fortunate I am to have so much and use it to be a better person. I also want to help my dad and my sister on this trip, for I know they can't have as much fun without my loud mouth and personality. Finally, I want the challenge of trying something totally new, traveling to another world to help.

Cliff Konnerth - St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Wayne, NJ This being my third trip I really look forward to seeing the kids and our interpreters again and furthering those relationships. My motivation for the first trip was as a personal challenge. On the second trip I figured out how to do it right. I am also excited to share this experience with my kids. Plus I drank from that silly fountain again, I have to go back, to serve others and to try to live my faith as I know I should.

Sarah Konnerth - St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Wayne, NJ I was only 10 when I first heard about this trip. It was my dad’s first time then, and I can remember his excitement and enthusiasm. After seeing a change in him, I knew it was something I had to do. He was passionate, and I knew I wouldn't fully understand until I experienced it myself. I have been given this amazing opportunity to help others in a way most people my age can't. Therefore, I go into this trip with nothing but excitement and anticipation for the journey ahead.

Chris Lucas - Zion Lutheran Church, Garfield, NJ
Ed Nace - Our Savior Lutheran Church, Haddonfield, NJ
Larry Olson - Musician (www.dakotaroadmusic.com)
Jason Reed - St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hainesport, NJ I'm going again this year to help build a world I want my children, and all children, to live in. And to learn more about such deep forgiveness and striving for peace that its only source must be the Prince of Peace.
Rev. Mark Rossman - Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Pompton Plains, NJ
Katie Sharpe - St. John Lutheran Church, Summit, NJ I am going on this trip for many reasons. Our work impacts so many people’s lives just from a one-day camp. Watching the kids interact with each other is just amazing. I’m looking forward to going to familiar places and new places, seeing our wonderful interpreters and playing with the kids at each camp. (I’m also very excited for cevapi and cheese burek.)

Beth Swanson - Zion Lutheran Church, Oldwick, NJ This year will be my forth year going and I'm already looking forward to more trips in the future. This trip began as a chance for me to try to help others and make a difference in someone else s life, but in the end this trip has made a wonderful impact on my own life. Spending time with the children over there is one of the most amazing experiences I have ever in my life and it has inspired me to want to have a career helping children. I am looking forward to returning to Bosnia and getting to see the schools, familiar faces, and to learn more about the country.
